Down Under Fashions from Candyland in NYC
It was like candy in the sky.
From the land down under, Australian designer Maria de Guzman gave us a sugary fix for our fashion sweet tooth. The former graphic artist, who is visiting the states on vacation, flew in from Miami to provide New York fashionistas with the first look at her spring 2012 Candyland collection in the Roman Kajzer and Davina Reichman runway show.
The Eric Vega sponsored Sky Room Rooftop Lounge soiree was chock full of leggy models in a dose of candy-theme color feminine party dresses. Brand ambassador and cousin of de Guzman, Ann-Maree Bowdler sashayed down the indoor/outdoor catwalk alongside familiar faces Amanda Wagner and Sylvia Ward above Times Square.
The 18-piece collection continues the brand’s signature elegant, fun and colorful style. The designer showed a mix of fun party dresses and elegant formal wearing with a variety of one-shoulder and off-shoulder and plunging and sweetheart necklines. The new collection combines curve-hugging bodices, flared skirts in full-length and above-the-knee styles in bright and pastel pinks and blues as well as rich sapphire blues, scarlet red, violet purple, pure white and black.
“I just wanted this collection to be fun, sexy and bold,” remarked the exotic de Guzman.
Following her world wind U.S. vacation, the petite Philippine beauty will be returning home to join her two partners as they prepare to launch their first brick-and-mortar boutique, Sassy Dolls. Located in Sydney, the salon will offer casual dresses, accessories as well as the Maria de Guzman line of formal and party dresses.
